The recognition of the sexes in Hegel’s philosophy
Abstract: This article reconstructs Hegel’s theory of recognition, taking the relationship between the sexes as its guiding thread. It aims to defend four theses: : (1) romantic relationships between men and women were a privileged experience for the young Hegel in the development of his theory of recognition; (2) through love, recognition between the sexes constitutes a singular and essential form of recognition; (3) this romantic recognition between the sexes has a historical dimension; (4) it is precisely this link between love, recognition, and history that makes it possible, in the form of an immanent critique, to update Hegelian philosophy from a feminist perspective.
Keywords: Hegel; Honneth; Recognition; Feminism; History.
