Abstract: A French translation by F. Fischback of Axel Honneth’s “Leiden an Unbestimmtheit” has just been published and in this article Pierre Macherey discusses how Honneth’s book attempts to reactualize Hegel’s “Philosophy of Right”. According to Macherey Honneth is right in reading Hegel as a philosopher of freedom instead of a philosopher of statism and authoritarianism.
